Nicaragua - San Juan Del Sur - part 2

Seems I´m having lots of time to kill in Internet cafes so you´re all getting the play-by-play.

Last night ended up being pretty fun, though awkward at times. After a refreshing shower and nap, Codi and Katy came back from hanging out downtown and we got ready and headed out for the evening. We went to a restaurant bar and instantly met up with a couple of friends Codi had made last time she was here. I had a delicious chicken burger and we shared a few rounds before heading to another spot that played a lot of reggae music with an eclectic crowd. We took a seat among a ring of people drinking talking and smoking. Among them was another friend Codi knew. She seems to be our in with the crowd around here :) The circle grew and shrank and different characters, locals and travelers drifted in and out of the place. There were travelers like us from the US, a girl from Quebec with a think french accent, a 30-plus year old still trying to stretch out his teenage skateboarding years, a tico from just outside of Puntarenas which was kinda coincidental, and the owner who was a young guy who loves to kick back with a beer with the visitors. The conversation was all over the map.

Later we headed down to the beach where there was a stage and live music and a DJ and go-go dancers tearing up the stage with stage lights flashing everywhere. A huge crowd was gathered around and the beer was flowing. I didn't feel much like drinking, but had a good time except for the annoying guys coming up to me every few minutes trying to get me to dance with them. I had to keep coming up with reasons to say no without being too offensive. What was worse is Codi and Katy had each fallen in with a guy and were dancing primarily with them while I was left looking very single and a likely target. Luckily Codi came to my rescue and hung out with me while her friend wandered off somewhere else for a while. Either way, it was fun, but yet another reminder of how pushy and aggressive Latin American men can be. We later went to a dance hall that played good music but I soon realized that everyone had been drinking more than me and I was extremely tired. I called it a night at about 3 a.m. and Kati and Codi wandered in at about 4:30 and 5:30 respectively. Needless to say, we had a slow morning. We´re leaving shortly for the surf tournament, which should be fun. I need some sun.

Hasta luego!
